Bruce Robert Cordell nació en 1968 en Watertown, Dakota del Sur, y estudió biología en la Universidad de Colorado. Trabajó en la industria biofarmacéutica, donde aprendió a sintetizar ADN, mientras hacía diseño de juegos como freelance. En 1995 TSR lo contrató de tiempo completo. Creó el Far Realm en la aventura The Gates of Firestorm Peak (1996) y escribió títulos como la Sea Devils Adventure Trilogy, The Illithiad, Die Vecna Die!, Return to the Tomb of Horrors y Return to White Plume Mountain, además de material para el juego Alternity. Participó en las primeras aventuras de la tercera edición de D&D, comenzando con The Sunless Citadel, y coescribió con Rich Baker la versión de Gamma World basada en las reglas de la cuarta edición (2010). Ganó el Origins Award por Return to the Tomb of Horrors y varios ENnies por Mindscapes, If Thoughts Could Kill y su trabajo en el Manual of the Planes.
